On 18, 19 and\u00a020 April the\u00a0XIV\u00a0International Congress of\u00a0Maintenance 2012 was held in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia in April. Organized by\u00a0ACIEM (www.aciem.org) experts\u00a0in different\u00a0areas of maintenance delivered \u200b\u200bpresentations\u00a0to the attendees. They emphasized sound practices, \u00a0the management of\u00a0maintainability, and the assessment of operational\u00a0risk.<\/p>\n

Among\u00a0the experts participating in\u00a0the congress\u00a0was \u00a0reliability\u00a0specialist, Gerardo\u00a0Vargas, who presented an account of a recent project at Cerrejon Coal \u00a0entitled \u201cLiving\u00a0Reliability Centered Maintenance<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

that optimizes\u00a0equipment reliability by exploiting available \u00a0maintenance related data in a new and fundamental way. A unique feature of LRCM integrates the initial\u00a0RCM analysis with daily work order activities. Surprisingly, the natural relationship\u00a0between the\u00a0Work Order\u00a0system\u00a0and the knowledge developed through\u00a0RCM\u00a0analysis has, up to now, been overlooked by maintenance departments and the entire maintenance technology industry.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0evaluation committee\u00a0selected the LRCM submission, from among the papers submitted, as the winner of the ACIEM\u00a0Award in Maintenance Engineering\u00a0sponsored by\u00a0Shell\u00a0Lubricants. LivingReliability congratulates Cerrej\u00f3n\u00a0and Gerardo\u00a0Vargas\u00a0for their excellence\u00a0in pioneering the LRCM process at the mine site.<\/p>\n
